7 Stop Thinking, Start Doing

I am an adult. For a few years now. No one has ever taught me how to be an adult. How am I supposed to cope with the daily challenges? How should I deal with my first breakup? How do I manage my finances?

No one tells you that. Neither school nor your parents. Is it because everyone has done it on their own and society is now punishing you for having to figure it out all by yourself? Or is it a necessity to experience everything on your own to become independent?

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve compared myself to others. He’s smarter, she’s more athletic, he’s younger. Always leading to the conclusion: I am not good enough. I should change or there is something inherently wrong with me. Be it my personality, my looks, my intelligence. I could always be stronger, and do better.

This is my wake-up call to you not to copy me. Not to choose the same path as me.

Only if you are willing to listen and change your lifestyle does it make sense to take the following points to heart. Otherwise, it will be just another article you read on the internet. Nothing new applied. Grab a pen and paper and write down something you want to change today. That’s right, today! Not tomorrow, but today.

Do today’s duty, fight today’s temptations; do not weaken and distract yourself by looking forward to things you cannot see, and could not understand if you saw them. Charles Kingsley

Stop thinking, start doing

Stop OVERthinking. You should be so busy that overthinking is a foreign word to you. Thinking is necessary. After all, you wouldn’t apply for a job you’re not interested in. I hope that’s self-explanatory.

What I mean is that your actions should be greater than your doubts about acting.

Self-doubt, never heard of it

It is crucial to be self-critical. Only then we can improve ourselves. However, excessive nagging makes no sense at all. It is a waste of your precious time. You should be working so hard on your craft, your online business, your book, or whatever it is. Doubts shouldn’t cross your mind. Well, unless you go to sleep — because then your mind starts to wander.

Do it

As Nike said: Just Do It. It occurred to me that I should do a task I’ve been putting off for months. You heard me right. I had my priorities, and this task wasn’t one of them. But now it’s starting to haunt me because I know it’s vital to get it done. I am afraid of the consequences if I do it, but I know that not doing it would be even worse.

If you’re to choose to paint your life today… What will it be? Remember, you’re the artist, not the canvas. Val Uchendu

There is only today

Tomorrow is foreign to you. You could get hit by a truck — I mean, anything is possible. So why not do what you love to do today? Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop. We’re not talking about watching Netflix. No. We are talking about the difficult tasks you should be doing. Chores, cooking, earning money, writing a card for a loved one. Remember the last time you were proud of yourself after watching Netflix? You weren’t! I have a strong suspicion that you felt much more fulfilled after finishing a book.

The world is your oyster

Neither am I trying to promote a grandiose complex or be a narcissist. I am mainly talking about the fact that you are here on this planet. You are smart. You are gorgeous. Remember your dreams. I would love to own a castle. I would love to raise my children in a safe home. I would love to pursue a career. Anything is possible, my friend. Anything. The only thing that separates you from others is whether you are willing to do something every day to become that person. Or would you rather dream your life away?

Doing is hard

That’s why we like to dream so much. Dreaming is easy. It’s fun. It’s safe. Doing is scary. But I assume that if you are reading these words, you know that you have what it takes to battle this fear.

To silence the voices in your head, you need to do the opposite of what they are telling you.

Don’t talk to him. Hurt yourself. Don’t speak up. Be a victim.

See? You are likely to have these thoughts. And what do you do? You challenge them.

Talk to him. Don’t hurt yourself. Speak up. Don’t be a victim.

How do you feel now? Better? I strongly suspect so.

Everything begins with the end

Death inspires us to become a better version of ourselves. The beginning is the hardest part. Once the unknown becomes familiar territory for you, you have grown. Starting becomes easier. What still drives you is the goal that lies ahead. If you realize that, you will never be the same person again and no one can make you feel insecure. You stop thinking and start doing. You start living your own life.

Never give up. Today is hard, tomorrow will be worse, but the day after tomorrow will be sunshine. Jack Ma
